Scientific Field Trip for Geology Students to Al-Quseir, Red Sea

A scientific field trip to Al-Quseir, Red Sea, was organized for Geology Department students at the Faculty of Science, Beni-Suef University under the patronage of Prof. Mansour Hassan, President of Beni-Suef University, and under the supervision of Prof. Hamada Mohamed Mahmoud, Dean of the Faculty of Science, and Prof. Boutros Riyad Bakhit, Head of the Geology Department.

The trip took place from Friday, February 14, to Wednesday, February 19, focusing on the study of various rock formations.

Key Activities and Sites Visited:

  • Field studies at Al-Dhawi and Atshan mountains, examining sedimentary rocks and stratigraphic sequences along the Qift–Al-Quseir road, including the contact zone between sedimentary rocks and basement rocks.

  • Visit to the Fawakhir area to study granite rocks and associated mineralization.

  • Exploration of Abu Ziran and Al-Mu’itq areas, along with Wadi Hammamat, known for its geological and historical significance.

  • Field visit to Umm Garifat iron mine, located 55 km south of Al-Quseir.
